“Judge not…” (Callistus I, Pope and Martyr)

Today is the Feast of St. Callistus (d. 222). He is not necessarily all that great a source for my iconographic purposes. However, he deserves consideration because his

“approach to sinners was actually closer to that of Jesus then to that of the new rigorists in the Church. The Church, he believed, where the wheat and tares grow together. The sorting out of saints from sinners must be left to the merciful God. The Church must offer reconciliation to anyone seeking forgiveness for sins committed after baptism.” (McBrien, Lives of the Saints, 2001)
